Why Law?

My ultimate dream from the time I was very little was to be a veterinarian. Which is basically perfect since I love animals, or so I thought.

My junior year in high school I job shadowed mobile veterinarian, at I was thrilled at first. I enjoyed the excellent work she performed and talents she had. However, I was with her from 6am to 11pm. I had a whole day cut out for me. We did a lot in that day.

I witnessed dental procedures, euthanizing, artificial insemination, hoof trimming, many vaccinations, pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, and so forth. Many the jobs focused on large animals, such as horses and cows, but we also seen dogs, guinea pigs, and foals. This was a peak season for cow and horse pregnancies.

After the day was over I was exhausted, and I wondered how she did that seven days a week. Skip forward to my first semester in college. I job shadowed at a local animal clinic, this time for a week. I seen a lot of different surgeries and procedures, but when I was watching the vets do their job, I couldn’t picture myself in their position. I tried and thought I just had to get through it, but I knew towards the end of the week that the career wasn’t for me. Also, the vets didn’t interact with the animals as much as I imagined and they did not seem to have the most glamorous life.

In high school, I also had the thought of becoming an animal welfare lawyer. Once I realized the veterinary career wasn’t for me I made the change. I am now working towards becoming a medical malpractice lawyer or animal welfare lawyer.

I am meeting with a lawyer, Attorney Ippiloto, tonight! Stay ready!
